The Accel Group name may be new to the Des Moines market, but the people are not. We sat down with Partner and Business Insurance Advisor, Chris Andrews, and discussed how his team is navigating doing business in Des Moines and surrounding areas.
The Accel Group name was brought to West Des Moines in 2019. Andrews previously owned Insurance Dynamics, and he then bought Asset Protection with The Accel Group. The two companies were brought together under The Accel Group name in February of 2019. This was an “all in” industry move for Andrews, and he made note that he is committed to this market for The Accel Group and for his clients.
As Des Moines is largely known as an insurance hub, The Accel Group stands out by practicing strong customer service as well as offering value added services such as loss control, an in-house claims department and a wealth management division. “We have over 250 years of experience in Des Moines between our advisors and customer service staff,” said Andrews. “They do an incredible job. I’d put them up against anyone in the business.”
“Because of the derecho and other things occurring in the marketplace in the past year, it has been a relatively receptive market for exploring new options”, Andrews said. After asking him what triggers businesses to switch insurance providers, he responded, “I think the primary reason people will shop is an irritation with customer service, a claims experience, or money.” Thankfully, The Accel Group can turn a positive outlook in each of those areas. Andrews noted, “Whatever brings us to the table, our intention is to provide better coverage and lower rates while providing exceptional customer service to our clients. We have accomplished both of these goals in nearly every scenario when given the opportunity to quote new business.”
As far as customer service, The Accel Group is not satisfied with the status quo. “After the derecho swept through Iowa, our claims department worked with our clients in house. Being able to offer something like this rather than outsourcing can make a huge difference in customer satisfaction.” We processed over 4,500 claims after the August 10th storm and touched nearly every customer personally at least once.
Andrews has high hopes for not only The Accel Group as a whole, but the growth of the Des Moines office itself. His long-term vision is that it will be a cornerstone of the agency in the future. He also mentioned since arriving in the area we have engaged in a couple of organizations such as ABI, ABC, and local chambers to increase our involvement in the community. “Our intention is to continue to advance our goals in the Des Moines metro area,” said Andrews.
